Overview
While the STATISTICA line of applications is best
known for more advanced analytic applications than those
offered via the popular OLAP approach, those users who need
the OLAP technology to efficiently produce flexible views of
data and automated reports have at their disposal the STATISTICA
OLAP module - the highest-performance, flexible, and
entirely platform-independent OLAP technology available on
the market, fully integrated into the STATISTICA
system.
Functionality
The STATISTICA OLAP system can leverage data from
multiple existing data sources and distribute filtered
information to end-user communities in the format that best
meets their needs. This robust, scalable technology supports
powerful querying, OLAP models of practically
unlimited complexity, and flexible write-back and security
model. This powerful tool enables you to use all advantages
of the OLAP approach and technology within your STATISTICA
system environment to rapidly generate meaningful views of
data (pivot tables and graphs), drill down (and up), slice
and dice your data, and quickly gain the most revealing
insights from large amounts of data. STATISTICA OLAP
can be integrated into any suite of STATISTICA
applications, from network products to all enterprise
systems including all WebSTATISTICA based systems. It
is also a natural (although optional) component of STATISTICA
and WebSTATISTICA
Data Warehouse environments. Countless applications
of STATISTICA OLAP within the desktop (networked) or WebSTATISTICA-based
environment fall into one of following three categories:
- Interactive Exploratory
Analysis and Mining. With the help of STATISTICA
OLAP, this, perhaps most common application of OLAP
technology can be made available within the STATISTICA
(desktop of Web-based) environment and supported with a
powerful client interface that builds on the long
tradition of STATISTICA's user-friendliness and
customizability.
- Flexible Report Generation.
All output generated by STATISTICA OLAP - that
is, any data views created from its flexible OLAP cubes
- can be reviewed via any of STATISTICA's
powerful output facilities including (a) multimedia
tables, (b) fully customizable graphs, and (b) reports.
Also, all OLAP views of data can be directed into Knowledge
Portals and Interactive
Knowledge Portals and integrated into the complete
business reporting and STATISTICA customizable
business intelligence distribution systems.
- Creating new data sets for
analyses by unfolding multiple OLAP table views (e.g.,
un-stacking, intelligent merging, layering). A
set of powerful tools is available to combine multiple
OLAP table reports into data sets suitable for advanced
analyses, such as predictive data mining, time series
and business forecasting, yield analysis, or designs of
experiments - using the complete, rich set of tools
available in STATISTICA. This unique
functionality automates the process of building
aggregated data sets and enables you to intelligently
combine multiple components (e.g., OLAP slices) into
integrated data sets optimized for the desired types of
advanced analyses.
As all applications and solutions in the STATISTICA
family of products, the STATISTICA OLAP features
comprehensive COM/API support and is fully programmable and
customizable, using industry standard programming tools such
as Visual Basic, C++, Java, or HTML.
Compatibility
STATISTICA OLAP - which incorporates technology
of the Hyperion Essbase Analytic Services (the clear leader
in OLAP-based business reporting software) - supports not
only practically all industry standard (and OLAP-compatible)
sources of data, including products from all major vendors
of database management systems, but it is also fully
compatible with both of the two emerging OLAP platforms: XML
for Analysis and JOLAP.
